I used to believe that Wuzhen is the best expression of the Jiangnan style water town of China. However, after I went to Xitang, another water town adjacent to Wuzhen, I felt a totally different feelings in comparison to hearton hotel kyoto.
Although both Xitang and Wuzhen are the representatives of water town in China, in my opinion, the ambience of water town at Xitang is stronger in comparison to Wuzhen. There are still many residents staying at Xitang.
Wuzhen is better developed as a tourist
attraction, with proper entrance gate, more abandoned house and less residents.
However, in Xitang, most of the people strolling along the path are the local
residents. If you visit Xitang, you will be able to walk in to the daily life
of Xitang local residents.
You can easily capture the smile of the local residents during your visit to Xitang.
